NASA To Discuss Conditions On And Surrounding The Sun

WASHINGTON — NASA will hold a media teleconference Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 12:30 p.m. EDT, to discuss data from the joint NASA and European Space Agency Ulysses mission that reveals the sun’s solar wind is at a 50-year low. The sun’s current state could result in changing conditions in the solar system.

Ric Werme on Watts Up With That? comments: “Perhaps they’ll be announcing a solar credit system so operators of solar power stations impacted by the risk of declining solar output will have their investments protected. The Sun is too big to let fail!”

The Green Scam

“[…] the simple precept that one of the main beneficiaries of “climate change” is big business.

“Arguably, this is – if one dare use that term – a vast conspiracy of interest, a means by which this triumvirate has found the golden key which enables it to pick the pockets of ordinary people. That turnkey, of course, is the quest to “save the planet”, for which no impost or sacrifice is too great to demand.”

Astronomical Influences Affect Climate More Than CO2, Say Experts
By Kevin Mooney, Staff Writer

( – Warming and cooling cycles are more directly tied in with astronomical influences than they are with human-caused carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, some scientists now say.
Recent observations point to a strong link between “solar variability” – or fluctuations in the sun’s radiation – and climate change on Earth, while other research sees the sun as just one of many heavenly bodies affecting global warming in the later half of the 20th century.

When forces appropriate to national defence are employed to protect a concept, the wise are warned; unreason is being unleashed.

Compelling notions will rise by their appeal to reason.  Robust enough to be worthy they will gain from challenge; and their proponents will welcome challenge as a means of modification towards certainty.

Compelled notions will eventually fall by their lack of appeal to reason.  Lacking robustness they will be unworthy enough to gain from challenge; and their proponents must resort to coercion to repel challenge and modification in the knowledge that any tolerance of questioning will see them fail.

The chaos of climate is a forever thing.  Our knowledge of the science of it continues to grow.  Today this knowledge is vastly greater than it was when, some twenty years ago, an apparent link between rising global temperature and a rising level of C02 in our atmosphere was called attention to… and declared a new danger to mankind.

A snowball was set rolling down the mountain, and grew as it rolled.

Then the global heat level and the C02 level unlinked.  C02 continued to rise.  Heat levels fell… but the ball rolled on, powered now not by the basic laws of nature, but by the basest natures of man. Fames and fortunes were riding that snowball.  Reason was but an inconvenience; and a threat to both gold and glory.

The concept of man-caused global warming had logic enough to be listened to.  It was seriously considered.  But those who had first proposed it, and those who saw personal gain in its propagation, feared the small first challenges and reacted with unreason to protect their claim; and this caused unease.

That unease continues to grow.

Aargh… Sometimes that old bowsprit and rudder mixup demands overriding even one’s own promises…
This is just too important to miss recording:

Update from the Hammond Report:

“We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

“There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.”

By sheer coincidence, the same story is taken up on Watts Up With That? today; and strengthened:

The quote below from the following story gives a fitting and neat ending to “Stay Warm, World…”
Since I began my quest for articles of science, and some diversions which were applicable, nine months ago, I have assembled a considerable resource list of links for all who are interested in following both the science and the scam of man-made global warming in this, to our shame, age of unreason.
Anyone who has followed along will have noted the manner in which wildcards have been dealt into the simple C02 is bad and going to burn us down story.  The spotless sun; the heating and cooling of oceans; the effects of clouds; volcanoes… the list expands as true scientists deal onto the table, and we all benefit…
…at least those who have not hitched their reputations to lies and deceit benefit.
I would guess the world has a greater knowledge of climate science today than it did even a year back.  It is a pity we are generally more cynical of that science, as well; although perhaps this is to our general benefit, and to the benefit of science itself, as blind acceptance can get us into difficulties.
Well; we have now demonstrated that.
Therefore, because over the past few months the world has developed a network of information sources to keep watch on the Great Global Warming Scam, this log has become redundant.
It will remain accessible on the web as a resource for some history; but adding to it is now passé.
The following, however, is just too good to pass up for a great finish:

“We say that if human beings were not contributing to global warming, it would become real cold in the next 50 years,”  Editor-in-Chief of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Jud Hale, said.

Old Farmers Almanac: Global Cooling May Be Underway

The Ricochet Effect

She caused the agonising death of millions; Penguin claim her as an inspiration.

“From Henry David Thoreau to Rachel Carson, writers have played a profound role in drawing attention to our natural environment and inspiring people to protect it,” said Elda Rotor, executive editor of Penguin Classics, publisher of some of the greatest environmental works ever written.
The literary publisher and science group are inviting aspiring writers and photographers to submit their personal stories and images about global warming for a new online book, Thoreau’s Legacy: American Stories about Global Warming, to be published by the Union of Concerned Scientists in 2009.

(Penguin Classics Joins the Union of Concerned Scientists in Call for a New Generation of Environmental Writers)

Two clips from Wikipedia are but the tip of an iceberg of criticism of Carson’s “Silent Spring”

In the 1960s, biochemist and former chemical industry spokesman Robert White-Stevens stated, “If man were to follow the teachings of Miss Carson, we would return to the Dark Ages, and the insects and diseases and vermin would once again inherit the earth.”

In a 2005 essay, “The Harm That Pressure Groups Can Do”, British politician Dick Taverne was damning in his criticism of Carson:
“Carson didn’t seem to take into account the vital role (DDT) played in controlling the transmission of malaria by killing the mosquitoes that carry the parasite (…) It is the single most effective agent ever developed for saving human life (…) Rachel Carson is a warning to us all of the dangers of neglecting the evidence-based approach and the need to weight potential risk against benefit: it can be argued that the anti-DDT campaign she inspired was responsible for almost as many deaths as some of the worst dictators of the last century.”

   This is obscene.
The world neither wants nor needs “Thoreau’s Legacy: American Stories about Global Warming”
These people must be given to understand this is not a harmless fashion to be exploited for a few pieces of silver, but is a deep and distressing malaise of our time where wisdom and understanding must prevail.

The ‘consensus’ on climate change is a catastrophe in itself
By Christopher Booker

“The common view of the IPCC is that it consists of 2,500 of the world’s leading scientists who, after carefully weighing all the evidence, have arrived at a “consensus” that world temperatures are rising disastrously, and that the only plausible cause has been rising levels of CO2 and other man-made greenhouse gases.

“But what happens after 2014? Dr Livingston says that as they are using a purely statistical argument, without any theory to back it, they do not know. All they know is that the trend reaches zero in 2014.    And poster, kim, on Watts Up With That? gives: “My range is twenty to a hundred years before we start warming up. Twenty if the sun resumes it’s usual 20th Century behaviour and the PDO predominates, and a hundred years if we’re headed toward a Grand Minimum.”

Which scientific community is that, again?

The cause of climate change “was settled in the scientific community a decade ago”, so she* wanted to find “how this has come to be, who is behind this campaign to claim there is scientific disagreement” on the issue.

Regulators: Gone Chicken?

They fall like avenging angels on the freebooters who entice and entangle the innocent in get-rich-quick schemes.  That is why we set them up. To regulate.  To protect.
Their charge is to watch.  To test.  Then to prosecute quickly the individual or entity who would mislead or defraud.
False claims in print or person bring the wrath they are charged to display… or once did.
Where are they now that “carbon schemes” are reaping a bountiful harvest on the basis of a theory?
   Just a theory.
Are our regulators endorsing doom?  Or too fearful of their political masters to perform their duty?
