A Classic Dichotomy ~ A Shadow of Shame
(dichotomy:  separation of different or contradictory things: a separation into two divisions that differ widely from or contradict.)
The following extract has grated in my mind since I posted it yesterday.  One simply cannot say “free and open” and follow it with “advocated forceful government response”.
***
“Because the truth is that promoting science isn’t just about providing resources — it’s about protecting free and open inquiry…”
US President-elect Obama on his appointment of
“Both Mr. Holdren and Ms. Lubchenco are leading experts on climate change who have advocated forceful government response.”
***
There is absolutely nothing “free and open” about these appointments. They close discussion.  They are absolute; and as such call forth the word “lie” at a time when the world is so willing to support the next face charged with the ultimate responsibility for the land of the free.
Such a glaring demonstration of a forked-tongue is a matter of concern; not just to those who fear the dislocation of our lives through the cynical manipulation of climate fear for reasons of power and greed, but for our very way-of-life.
We ask for better than this.

It may be that more global warming doubters are surfacing because there just isn’t any global warming.
For nearly 30 years, Professor Christy has been in charge of NASA’s eight weather satellites that take more than 300,000 temperature readings daily around the globe. In a paper co-written with Dr. Douglass, he concludes that while manmade emissions may be having a slight impact, “variations in global temperatures since 1978 … cannot be attributed to carbon dioxide.”

The underchuckle of humour running through Steve’s writing draws me on way beyond my understanding of the science he explores.

“None of this, of course, matters to the warming zealots and some major media outlets. If it’s too dry or too wet, too hot or too cold, everything is caused by global warming. We believe, as do many reputable scientists, that the warming and cooling of the earth is a natural phenomenon dictated by forces beyond our control, from ocean currents to solar activity. The little white lie that ran amok…

From Jørgen F. (04:16:03) on Watts Up With That?

“In Denmark both our prime minister and our ‘climate minister’(!) have stated clearly that their views on ‘climate change’ is based on ‘expert’ advice from IPCC and specific parts of the scientific community alone.
“They public acknowledge the fact that scientists can have a complete different view of reasons to & levels of climate change in 10 years time. But they see the changes in energy technology as an golden opportunity for Denmark, not matter what scientist say in 10 years from now – We don’t have any car industry, but a huge (Danish huge) wind turbine industry and we are in general fast movers on tech – opportunity knocks!
“The whole European Community (EC) also sees investments in the energy sector as an opportunity to free Europe from Russian or Middle-East energy supplies, and at the same time a way to invest Europe out of the current economical crises with public money.

“So no one really cares about climate – It’s just an opportunity to drive needed changes & investments.”
